The proliferation of doughnut shops and bakeries in Abilene leaves little doubt: we have a sweet tooth.

In December 2008, Abilene had 26 bakeries and doughnut shops, said Glenn Bailey, the city’s environmental health manager.

Three years later, 32 such shops operate.

Doughnut shops have been a large part of the increase, he said.

In 2010, Abilene Donuts opened on Ambler Avenue, near Sears Park.

CLAREMORE, Okla. — Garth Brooks appeared before a friendly crowd Tuesday—the jurors who will hear his claim that an Oklahoma hospital refused to name a building for his late mother after he gave it $500,000.

Nearly everyone in the jury pool raised their hands when Brooks’ lawyer asked whether they had heard of the country music star. Eight of the 18 selected for possible duty acknowledged they were fans, and several said they had attended one or more of his concerts.

Brooks claims he made the donation to Integris Canadian Valley Regional Hospital in Yukon because he believed at least some part of the facility would be named after his mother. He has sued to have the money returned.

Integris has said the donation was an “unconditional” gift and it has done nothing wrong by not naming a building after Colleen Brooks.

NEW YORK (AP) – Stephen Colbert isn’t running for president – at least not yet.During Thursday night’s episode of “The Colbert Report,” Colbert legally transferred his super political action committee to his friend and Comedy Central cohort Jon Stewart. Campaigning politicians are prohibited from simultaneously running super PACs.But Colbert only hinted at such a decision, which he had grandly hyped ahead of Thursday’s show.

Sony Classical, in partnership with the Metropolitan Opera, continues its popular series of releases drawn from the legendary Met archives. Four multi-disc sets represent the first official release on CD of these historic Saturday afternoon radio broadcasts.

In August, Sony Classical issued complete live recordings—freshly remastered from the original sources—of four great Verdi operas: “Don Carlo” (1964), “Il Trovatore” (1961), “Rigoletto” (1964), and “Un Ballo in Maschera” (1955). These live recordings feature some of opera’s most celebrated stars at the height of their vocal powers, often in roles that they did not record commercially.

“Un Ballo in Maschera”

The 1955 production of Verdis “Un Ballo in Maschera” (A Masked Ball) certainly qualifies as important, though perhaps more as a social document than as a musical one. The great African-American cont

The entire cast of the upcoming season of Celebrity Apprentice was just revealed last week and we have learned the first major beef between two of the contestants. Former Danity Kane singer Aubrey ODay and the late night talk show legend Arsenio Hall.

We dont know the details, but apparently the feud is so heated that Aubrey nearly walked off the show. Good thing she didnt. There is no better way to ruffle Donald Trumps feathers than by not allowing him the satisfaction of saying: Youre Fired.

The season premiere of “Celebrity Apprentice” airs Sunday February 12 on NBC at 9/8c.
