Amy Winehouse‘s heartbroken family is setting up a charitable foundation in her honor, aimed at providing care for children and drug addicts.
The Rehab hit-maker’s father, Mitch, announced plans for the Amy Winehouse Foundation during a moving eulogy at her funeral in London on Tuesday.
He told mourners the organization will be set up to provide help and support for those with a drug problem, including possible treatment at a rehabilitation clinic. It will also benefit children and horses, which Winehouse loved.
In a speech at the service, Mitch said, “I was in New York with my cousin Michael when I heard (of her death) and straight away I said I wanted an Amy Winehouse Foundation, something to help the things she loved – children, horses, but also to help those struggling with substance abuse.”
“In this country, if you cannot afford a private rehabilitation clinic, there is a two-year waiting list for help. With the help of Keith Vaz MP (Member of Parliament), we are trying to change that.”
