Martin Scorsese’s film “Hugo” lead the Academy Awards with 11 nominations, including best picture and best director.

Golden Globe winner “The Artist” was nominated for ten Academy Awards including best picture.

Other best picture Oscar nominations announced Tuesday morning include “The Help,” “The Descendants,” “War Horse,” “Moneyball,” “Tree of Life,” “Midnight in Paris” and “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.”

Golden Globe winners in separate best actress categories Meryl Streep, “The Iron Lady” and Michelle Williams “My Week With Marilyn,” will face off for the academy award. The other nominees for best actress are: Glenn Close, “Albert Nobbs,” Viola Davis, “The Help,” and Rooney Mara, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.”

The nominees for best director are Michel Hazanavicius The Artist,” Alexander Payne (The Descendants), Martin Scorsese (Hugo), Woody Allen (Midnight in Paris) and Terrence Malick The Tree of Life.”

The nominees for best actor are George Clooney The Descendants, Brad Pitt Moneyball, Jean Dujardin The Artist,” Demian Bichir A Better Life, and Gary Oldman Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.”

The nominees for best supporting actor are Christopher Plummer (Beginners), Nick Nolte (Warrior), Kenneth Branagh (My Week with Marilyn), Jonah Hill Moneyball and Max von Sydow Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.”

The nominees for best supporting actress are Melissa McCarthy Bridesmaids, Jessica Chastain The Help,” Octavia Spencer The Help, Janet McTeer Albert Nobbs and Berenice Bejo The Artist.”

The nominees for best adapted screenplay are The Descendants, Hugo, The Ides of March, Moneyball and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

The nominees for best original screenplay are The Artist, Bridesmaids, Margin Call, Midnight in Paris and A Separation.

The nominees for best animated feature are A Cat in Paris, Chico & Rita, Kung Fu Panda 2, Puss in Boots and Rango.

The nominees for best foreign language film include “A Separation,” “Footnote,” “In Darkness,” “Bullhead” and “Monsieur Lahzar.”

The nominees for best documentary feature are “Pina,” “Hell and Back Again,” “If A Tree Falls: The Story of the Earth Liberation Front,” “Paradise Lost 3″ and “Undefeated.”

The nominees for best cinematography are “The Artist,” “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” “Hugo,” “The Tree of Life” and “War Horse.”

The nominees for best original score are “The Adventures of Tintin,” “The Artist,” “Hugo,” “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” and “War Horse.”

The nominees for best original song include “Man or Muppet” from “The Muppets,” and “Real in Rio” from “Rio.”

The nominees for best editing are “The Artist,” “The Descendants,” “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” “Hugo” and “Moneyball.”

The nominees for best art direction include “The Artist,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2,” “Hugo,” “Midnight in Paris” and “War Horse.”

The nominees for best costume design are “Anonymous,” “The Artist,” “Hugo,” “Jane Eyre” and “W.E.”

The nominees for best makeup are “Albert Nobbs,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ and “The Iron Lady.”

The nominees for best visual effects include “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” “Hugo,” “Real Steel,” “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” and “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.”

The nominees for best sound mixing are “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” “Moneyball,” “Hugo,” “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” and “War Horse.”

The nominees for best sound editing are “Drive,” “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” “Hugo,” “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” and “War Horse.”

The nominees for best animated short are “Dimanche/Sunday,” “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore,” “La Luna,” “A Morning Stroll” and “Wild Life.”

The nominees for best live action short include “Pentecost,” “Raju,” “The Shore,” “Time Freak” and “Tuba Atlantic.”

The nominees for best documentary short include “The Barber of Birmingham: Foot Soldier of the Civil Rights Movement,” “God Is the Bigger Elvis,” “Incident in New Baghdad,” “Saving Face” and “The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom.”

The nominations were announced at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak and actress Jennifer Lawrence.

The 84th Academy Awards will be held on Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. ET and Billy Crystal will be the host.
