In a sign of legal fallout from the Casey Anthony murder trial, a lawyer for Michael Jackson’s doctor said Wednesday his jury should be sequestered to avoid contamination by TV pundits – specifically Nancy Grace.
Attorney J. Michael Flanagan said the televised, involuntary manslaughter trial of Dr. Conrad Murray could be prejudiced by “final arguments” being delivered daily on TV by Grace and other commentators.
“How many final arguments will we have to hear in this case?” Flanagan asked.
At a pretrial hearing, the lawyer referred to “the recent case in Florida” and told the judge Murray’s trial was expected to get even wider coverage. Read more…
Jury, Jury Sequestered

Sunday night’s Valley Vivaldi concert at Allen Organ in Macungie, the second of a four-concert summer series, presented music of the baroque and early classical periods that was by turns charming and substantive, the latter representing some of the best compositions of the period.
The charming works, and I use the term in an entirely unpejorative way, were by Frenchman Jean-Marie Leclair and Italian but transplanted Viennese Mauro Giuliani. The more substantive works were by Vivaldi, Telemann and Bach.
Under the rubric “charming” I refer to Concerto in C for Flute and Strings of Leclair, full of wonderful flute ornamentation, and the Serenade in A for Guitar, Violin and Cello of Giuliani, both full of delightful melodic and rhythmic figures, put together with not inconsiderable musical skill, but without much beyond that.

Music sales are on the rise midway through the year for the first time since 2004, according to statistics from Nielsen SoundScan.
Overall music sales climbed 8.5 percent to 821 million, largely driven by a 19 percent jump in digital album sales and an 11 percent increase in digital track sales. Sales of vinyl LPs continue their resurgence, too, with a 41 percent spike to 1.9 million sold between Jan. Read more…
